Nurd Comment:

Messing doesn't oxidize. It gets a little bit darker.

other than that nice render

Thanks for the comments, people!
Fumera, actually this was more of a shape/texture/rendering study, so I didn't go deep in the exact metals used on grenades, but thanks for the comment anyway... maybe I can go deeper on that in the future... ;)

very nice :)
if I may I think your rust pattern might be a bit much
maybe not so much would look better?

To add to fumera's comments. The only portion of the grenade that oxidizes is the blasting cap (the pin and assembly, not to include the spoon). The paint coating can chip off if neglected for a long time (and this type of grenade is pretty darn old, we use the baseball-frags nowadays) But it wouldn't chip off in tiny even marks like that. Plus the paint coating is pretty thick and tough, so there would have to be some deep gouges.

Your rust pattern is very uniform. The rust on the spoon is nice but needs to be in spots of wear. It looks like the entire grenade was put in an oxidizer, in the real world, nothing oxidizes evenly like that.

Good work on the model!

nice! but you should have put shadow in the dirty spots too, they seem out of space...

the only thing that makes these look like 3D models is the lighting. i think the shadows are a bit too harsh and clean. make them smoother and i won't be able to tell this isn't a photo
+10 anyway

i think the rust patches look a little flat in detail. you have all this detail in the darker parts of the texture, but when it comes to the lighter rust patches it looks like you just got a brush in photoshop at 100% opacity and painted it on. Overall i think it looks excellent, better than anything i could accomplish.

Thanks a lot for all your comments and critiques!!!

killadore: shadows are area ones, the closer the object is to one another, the sharper and darker the shadow becomes. But I understand what you're saying, maybe I'll try a different lighting next time! ;)

maxd, Wapy, LillianaS and yvy: Yes, I think I agree with all of you about the rust. Well, trust me, they aren't photoshoped, hehehe.... It's probably something about the illumination, perhaps too much light that makes them look as if they didn't have different values on them (also affecting the shadows as killadore says). I agree on the fact that the pattern is somehow uniform too. As I told you before, this work is really old, probably between 2 to 4 years old :p, I don't remember. With all your good comments and critiques I would like to do a new, improved version in the future, taking into account everything you've said to me! Thanks a lot again!!

Whoa! I thought they are just average photos. Holey moley. The shadows are very realistic for a 3d model.
